Panic attacks are famous for making the sufferer feel extremely fearful as well as will fill their minds and hearts with real dread. Some of the other common symptoms of a panic attack include feeling dizzy, experiencing shortness of breath and experiencing nausea. When a panic attack occurs it can make the sufferer feel as if they are going out of their minds and will even make them feel as if they are about to die. When it comes to suitable panic attack treatment several options are open to you that in turn depend on a number of different factors.

Medications And Cognitive Behavior Therapy

The most common panic attack treatments include medications and undergoing cognitive behavioral therapy. Often, physicians will prescribe taking of anti-depressants and other forms of medications that they say will help provide relief from anxiety. Anti-depressants, when taken over a period of a few weeks, can help in preventing further panic attack while taking of benzodiazepines (anti-anxiety medication) when taken during a panic attack can provide much needed relief.

The problem with following medication based panic attack treatment is that soon the patient can develop the habit of popping pills to stay free of panic attacks and this can lead to them becoming addicted to various kinds of medications.

The most effective panic attack treatment is not one that means using medications but in fact is the one known as cognitive behavior therapy which tries to teach the sufferer how changing their patterns of thinking and/or behaviors can provide relief from panic attacks. Even exposure therapy is another useful panic attack treatment option and one that can prove to be quite useful and effective as well.

Exposure therapy is a panic attack treatment in which the patient has to be exposed to a safe environment where there is less chance of them experiencing the physical sensations that are so commonly felt during a panic attack. Even teaching the patient to hold their breath or to hyperventilate or even shake their heads from one side to another can prove to be very useful in providing relief from the symptoms of panic attacks. Use of controllable settings helps the patient to deal with their panic attack symptoms in a more fearless manner and so ensures better results.

Without a doubt the best treatment for panic attack is one that begins with the patient consulting their physician who must first diagnose the condition and then suggest taking of tried and tested medicines to help control the symptoms. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is also a good solution and it is in fact a treatment option that holistically attempts to treat the problem through breathing techniques, visualization techniques and also through use of relaxation techniques that help ward off the symptoms.
